HOIAC cross-country meet held Monday in Ames

The Greene County girls placed third and the boys placed seventh of the 10 teams at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference cross-country meet held at the Iowa State University course in Ames Monday. Weather conditions were not good for running. Some runners had better times than their average times, but no runners had their best time of the season and no runners set a personal record.

Sophomore Olivia Hansen was the Rams’ only all-conference runner, placing 13th with a time of 17:32.2 in the 4K race. Seniors Emily Christensen and Eme Johnson finished 21st and 22nd respectively, with times of 18:17.5 and 18:19.4. Other varsity times were freshman Emily Finch, 25th, 18:36.9; senior Noelle Gray, 27th, 18:38.2; senior Jolee Wessling, 40th, 19:33.9; and junior Cassidy Adamson, 56th, 21:18.1. Winning time for the girls 4K was 15:25.40 set by senior Grace Gibbons of Gilbert.

Senior Logan Egeland’s time of 19:34.2 for the 5K race was the best time for the Ram boys and put him in 17th place in the conference. Other varsity places and times were senior Landon Braun, 40th, 20:51.3; freshman Kane Borgeson, 44th, 21:17.0; junior Ethan Woodruff, 46th, 21:28.5; senior Abe Yoder, 50th, 22:12.6; and junior Anthony Cunningham, 52nd, 22:35.1. Winning time for the boys 5K was 17:54.49 set by senior Richard Bradley of Gilbert.

Gilbert won both the girls and boys conference titles.

Team scores in the girls race were Gilbert 17, North Polk 92, Greene County 108, Colfax-Mingo 142, CMB 146, South Hamilton 156, PCM 171, Nevada 180, Roland-Story 184, and Saydel 253.

Team scores in the boys race were Gilbert 27, CMB 94, Saydel 95, North Polk 112, Nevada 113, Roland-Story 129, Greene County 197, PCM 219, South Hamilton 226, and Colfax-Mingo 272.
